Export

Export is a feature used to export the SOLIDWORKS document structure, including user-specified data such as quantity and BOM number, into an external data source. Create your own export profiles to export the desired data.

If the active document is changed when performing the Export command, you are prompted to save the changes before the structure export. However, the Export feature does not check if other open documents are changed and related to the same structure.

Export profile Determines the export profile to be used for exporting the selected model structure.

The export profile determines the output data structure and output data type for the Export operation.

TIP: To ensure the data export works properly, make sure the selected Export Profile has the correct Profile type selected in its options. Options of the Export Profiles are set up using the ATR CustomTools Export Profile Editor.
Selection A preview image of a component selected from the Structure view list. The preview image shown in the Selection box is specific to the configuration of the selected component.
Filename Displays the location and filename of the selected document.
Export

Exports the structure data into the external system using the export settings defined in the selected export profile.

TIP: The Export button is disabled if any errors have been detected in the structure or if the export settings are not set up properly.
Close Closes the Export dialog box.
Exclude Invalid Rows

Excludes the rows with errors from the structure export.

To undo this, you have two ways:

  • Reselect the export profile
  • Select the desired row in the Structure view, clear the Exclude from BOM option, then click Apply to Files.
Excluded from BOM The selected row is excluded from the BOM and from the output file of the structure export.
Apply to Files Applies excluding from the BOM for the selected files.

You can exclude multiple files from the BOM at once. Select each file separately from the Structure view and select the Excluded from BOM option. After setting all desired files to be excluded, click Apply to Files to apply the exclusion.

The text color on rows excluded from the BOM changes to light gray after you apply the changes by clicking the Apply changes button.

NOTE:

The top-level assembly cannot be excluded from the BOM.

Parts cannot be excluded from the BOM if the main assembly is not open in SOLIDWORKS.

The document structure view shows the structure of the currently selected document, i.e., the document selected when you clicked the Export command.

The structure shown represents the data exported with the profile selected in the Export profile box. All fields defined in the export profiles are shown by default, but you can adjust the shown columns by right-clicking the table's header row and selecting or clearing columns.

You can rearrange columns in the Structure view by dragging them. Rearranging columns does not affect the output of the structure export.

Export fields with invalid values are highlighted in the Structure view with a red background. Right-click the highlighted row and select What's Wrong for more information.

The Always show components of subassemblies ignoring the “Child component display when used as a subassembly” setting option in the ATR CustomTools Export Profile makes the Export feature ignore the Child component display when used as a subassembly option in SOLIDWORKS assembly configurations. In that case, all supported components in subassemblies are shown and included in the export process.

NOTE: The Always show components of subassemblies ignoring the “Child component display when used as a subassembly” setting option is not available for Cloud Connected export profiles. For Cloud Connected exports, supported components in subassemblies are shown and exported according to the Child component display when used as a subassembly option in SOLIDWORKS.

SOLIDWORKS Bill of Material Options of the Assembly Configuration:

SOLIDWORKS Assembly configurations have Bill of Materials Options that determine whether child components of an assembly are shown in the BOM when the assembly is used as a sub-assembly.

The ATR CustomTools Export feature also considers the child components' visibility option selected for the assembly configuration referenced in the model structure, so sub-assemblies' child components visibility in the Structure view is determined by the SOLIDWORKS assembly configuration's Bill of Materials Options.

The ATR CustomTools Export feature supports all three (Show, Hide, and Promote) options of SOLIDWORKS assembly configurations. Non-open documents and lightweight components are also handled.

Search string Determines the string to search for in the Structure view.
Search

Executes the search for the string defined in the Search string box within the document structure.

The cells in the Structure view where the search string is found are highlighted for easier identification.

Next Locates and highlights the next matching row in the Structure view.
Previous Locates and highlights the previous matching row in the Structure view.

When using SOLIDWORKS PDM and the files to export are located in your PDM Vault, file versions are checked. If there are differences in file versions, you are prompted to choose which version to export.

Do this for all Select to apply the same handling method to all files that are not the latest version.
Get Latest Gets the latest version of the file from the PDM system.
Get As-Built Takes the version of the file as it was when its referenced assembly was last checked in to the PDM Vault.
Use Local The local version of the file is exported.
Print/Convert

Printing options for the selected document. Available options:

Selected files Opens the selected files in Print/Convert for batch operations.
BOM of selected file(s) Opens the BOM structure of the selected document in Print/Convert for batch operations.
Where Used Shows where the selected document is used.
File Operations

Commands to perform different actions for files. Available commands:

Delete File Removes the selected documents.

Since you need permission to manage the database to delete reference data from the ATR CustomTools database, the Delete command is enabled only when you have the necessary database user rights.

The data is deleted only from the database by default, but you can also delete the file from the hard disk by selecting the Delete associated files from hard drive as well option in the Delete Files dialog box that appears when Delete is clicked.

Open File in SW Opens the selected document with SOLIDWORKS.
Open Drawings Opens the desired drawings related to the selected part or assembly.
Open in Explorer Opens the location of the selected document in Windows Explorer.
List

Commands to export and open the document list:

Export

Export the document list into an external file for later use. Supported file types:

  • CSV files (*.csv): Exported values are separated by tabs in the output file.
  • Text files (*.txt): Exported values are separated by commas in the output file.
Open as CSV Open the document list in the default application assigned for CSV files.
