Import

This help page describes functionality of the ATR CustomTools Import feature, which also includes the Solid Edge File Conversion feature. Use the following links to navigate this page:

Using the ATR CustomTools Import feature, you can import reference data of your SOLIDWORKS documents to your ATR CustomTools database. Some ATR CustomTools features require that the files' reference data exist in the database.

You can also use the Import feature to migrate your design data from ATR CustomTools 3.x versions to newer ATR CustomTools versions.

The ATR CustomTools Import feature includes the conversion feature for Solid Edge files. The Solid Edge File Conversion feature is described later in this help page.

Click the Import button in the ATR CustomTools toolbar, or use the ATR CustomTools menu to select ATR CustomTools, Import and choose Import SOLIDWORKS Files or Convert Solid Edge Files according to your task.

The Import dialog box appears.

Import Imports selected files into the current ATR CustomTools database.
Add Active Document

Adds the currently open document into the Files to import list.

NOTE: The Add Active Document button is enabled only if there is at least one open document.
Add Files Select individual files to import into the database.
Add Folder Import all files from the specified folder into the database.

Selected files or files in the selected folder appear in the Files to import list.

Load From File Loads files into the Files to import list from a separate text file.

To load a failed job, locate the desired text file and click Open.

Save Failed Save the list of files which failed to be imported.
Delete Selected

Removes selected files from the Files to import list. Files you remove will not be imported.

TIP: Hold down the CTRL key and select files to be removed from the Files to import list.
Clear List Clears the file list.
Add Folder From Vault Opens a folder browser to add files from a folder located in your PDM data vault.
Cancel Operation Aborts the import process that has already started.
Close Closes the Import dialog box.

The Solid Edge file conversion can only be executed when the Import tool is launched through the ATR CustomTools command manager or from the ATR CustomTools menu. The ATR CustomTools command manager appears only if you have at least one document open in SOLIDWORKS.

NOTE: To use the Solid Edge file conversion, you need at least the Solid Edge ST3 version installed on your workstation. The Solid Edge family of parts and/or family of assemblies are not supported in the ATR CustomTools Solid Edge Conversion feature.
Import drawings of 3D models When selected, drawings related to your 3D models are also imported into your ATR CustomTools database.
Import revision data Select this option to also import the documents' revision data into the database along with the documents.
NOTE: If you import revision data from a document that already has a revision table, the existing revision data is compared with the imported data. The revision data present after the import process is the most recently added.
Options Opens the Define Advanced Drawings Settings dialog box. Set up advanced importing options using this dialog.
Revision Options Use Revision Options to define revision data migration settings.
Conversion Options Opens the Solid Edge file conversion options. Use Conversion Options to customize the Solid Edge file conversion process.
Read CT3 custom property meta-data Reads meta-data of document custom properties created with ATR CustomTools 3.x versions.
Delete unused CT3 custom property meta-data Removes unnecessary meta-data from SOLIDWORKS document properties while importing documents made with ATR CustomTools 3.x.

Removing unnecessary data decreases file size and saves storage space.

NOTE: These options are necessary only when migrating from ATR CustomTools 3.x or older to ATR CustomTools 2010 or newer.
Don't import referenced files that already exist in the database Select this option to ignore existing component references during import. Document references whose parent assembly information already exists in the database are ignored.
Open and save file in SOLIDWORKS Opens the imported file with SOLIDWORKS and saves it to ensure the file version stays correct. Select this option when importing files last saved with an older SOLIDWORKS version and file versions need updating during import.
Don't process unmapped sheet formats Drawings with sheet formats not mapped to any revision table are skipped during import. Skipped files are marked with the Error icon.

The Don't process unmapped sheet formats option is available only when importing revision data.

SOLIDWORKS version to use Determines the SOLIDWORKS version used to execute the import and open documents requiring SOLIDWORKS during import.
NOTE: The SOLIDWORKS version to use option is enabled only in the Standalone Import tool.

If the import process fails, you are prompted to continue from the last failed state when an error occurred. A prompt to continue the failed import process appears when the Import tool starts next time after the process has failed.

Files in the Read-Only state can be imported with the ATR CustomTools Import feature. The import tool removes the Read-Only status from files until the import process finishes. Once completed, the Read-Only status is restored to files that had it before import.
