Setup the CUSTOMTOOLS Task Add-In for SOLIDWORKS PDM

With the CUSTOMTOOLS Task Add-In, you can execute CUSTOMTOOLS Tasks like the Batch Operations and structure Export, from your SOLIDWORKS PDM Vault. The CUSTOTMOOLS Task Add-In for SOLIDWORKS PDM feature is included in all license levels of CUSTOMTOOLS but, please consider that the CUSTOMTOOLS feature specific limitations still apply to the Tasks executed by the Task Add-In.

This help page introduces how to setup the CUSTOMTOOLS Task Add-In, into your SOLIDWORKS PDM Vault.

NOTE: The Can administrate add-ins permission is required for the SOLIDWORKS PDM User in order to be allowed to setup the CUSTOMTOOLS Task Add-In, into SOLIDWORKS PDM Vault.

Please refer to the SOLIDWORKS PDM Documentation or, contact your administrator for more information about the SOLIDWORKS PDM Administrative Permissions.

First of all, launch your SOLIDWORKS PDM Administration and login to your SOLIDWORKS PDM Vault.

  1. Click Start, SOLIDWORKS PDM, Administration
  2. Click associated to your PDM Vault or double click your PDM Vault's name in the tree view. The PDM Vault login dialog box appears.
  3. Provide credentials of a user with proper permissions into the login dialog and then click the Login button. Your PDM Vault contents expands in the tree view as an indication of a successfull login.

Once logged into your SOLIDWORKS PDM Vault, proceed to the following instructions to into your PDM Vault.

If you have already set up the CUSTOMTOOLS Task Add-in, and you are about to upgrade it, once logged into your SOLIDWORKS PDM Vault, proceed to the following instructions to into your PDM Vault.
  1. In the vault tree, right-click Add-Ins and select New Add-In. The Select Files for the Add-in dialog box appears.
  2. Locate a folder called CUSTOMTOOLS Task Add-In from your CUSTOMTOOLS installation path. Select all dll files in CUSTOMTOOLS Task Add-In folder and click Open. The Properties - CUSTOMTOOLS 202x Task Add-In dialog box appears.
  3. On the bottom left of the dialog box, click the Setup command. The CUSTOMTOOLS Database Connection dialog box appears.
    In case the CUSTOMTOOLS Database Connection dialog appears with no options available in the Database name and Profile boxes, please ensure that you have the CUSTOMTOOLS Server Properties set up properly and, with the valid login credentials.

  4. Refer to the following bullets to setup the CUSTOMTOOLS Database Connection for your Task Add-In.
    • Database name. Sets the CUSTOMTOOLS database the Task Add-In associates with.
    • Profile. Determines the CUSTOMTOOLS Profile to use the Task profiles with. The Batch Operation and Export profiles associated to the Tasks, are being looked for, from the profile selected here.
  5. Click OK. The CTTaskAddin - 210 (ATR Soft Oy) child node appears under the Add-ins node in your vault tree view.
The number at the end of the CTTaskAddin name in the vault tree view refers to the CUSTOMTOOLS version the Task Add-In represents. In this documentation the number is 230. That means that the CUSTOMTOOLS Task Add-In added into the SOLIDWORKS PDM Vault, is representing the CUSTOMTOOLS 2023 SP0 version.

The CUSTOMTOOLS Task Add-In version have to match with the rest of the CUSTOMTOOLS environment that is being used on the workstation. Please refer to the following instructions to upgrade the CUSTOMTOOLS Task Add-In of your SOLIDWORKS PDM environment while you are logged in to your PDM Vault.

  1. In the vault tree, right-click The CTTaskAddin - 210 (ATR Soft Oy) and select Open or, double click the CTTaskAddin - 210 (ATR Soft Oy). The Properties - CUSTOMTOOLS 202x Task Add-In dialog box appears.
  2. Click Files to see the files associated to the CUSTOMTOOLS Task Add-In.
  3. Click Add Files. The Select Files for the Add-in dialog box appears.
  4. Locate a folder called CUSTOMTOOLS Task Add-In from your CUSTOMTOOLS installation path. Select all dll files in CUSTOMTOOLS Task Add-In folder and click Open.
  5. Tell all other SOLIDWORKS PDM Users in your environment to restart the computer to apply the CUSTOMTOOLS Task Add-In upgrade.
NOTE: Once the CUSTOMTOOLS Task Add-In is being upgraded, the changes applies to all SOLIDWORKS PDM Users in your environment. Therefore all client workstations have to be restarted to make the changes to take effect.
