You setup the CUSTOMTOOLS Database related user rights using the CUSTOMTOOLS Administration for the individual users and user groups.


Defining Database permissions:

Users that have the Manage Users permission are allowed to change the database level permissions of themself and, the other Users. To manage the database level permissions of the User Groups, the Manage User Groups permission is required too.

The CUSTOMTOOLS database has always one administrator user called Admin. The Admin user cannot be removed from the database and its user rights could not be modified. The Admin user have all permissions on the database, and all of the Profiles in the database.


  1. Start the CUSTOMTOOLS Administration.
  2. Login to your CUSTOMTOOLS database
  3. In the Database view, right-click the database name and select Permissions. The Database Rights dialog box appears.

    In the Database Rights dialog box, you are able to define the permissions for the User Groups and/or, for the individual Users:


You Can Grant/Deny The Following Database Permissions For The Users/User Groups:

Manage User Groups Permission to create and modify user groups and their permissions and users’ membership in groups.
Manage Users Permission to create and modify users but cannot modify users’ memberships in groups
Manage Profiles Full access to all profiles in the selected CUSTOMTOOLS database regardless of the profile specific permissions.
Import Settings Permission to Import the database profile related settings like the Export Profiles, File Conversion rules, Properties and so on.
Export Settings Permission to Export the database profile related settings like the Export Profiles, File Conversion rules, Properties and so on. CUSTOMTOOLS Profiles could be exported to an external CUSTOMTOOLS Profile (*.ctprof) type of file.
Delete Design Data Permission to delete actual SOLIDWORKS files from the disk through the search results. Without this permission you can only remove file from database.
Manage Dictionaries Permission to manage the CUSTOMTOOLS Dictionaries. Without this permission you are not allowed to see the Translation Options node in the CUSTOMTOOLS Database Options. Also the management of the CUSTOMTOOLS Dictionary Contents through the CUSTOMTOOLS Properties pane, is prohibitted without this permission.
Database Administrator The administrative permission to the selected database. This permission allows you to manage the CUSTOMTOOLS Database Options, including General, Attributes, Note Templates. The Translation Options could be modified without the Database Administrator permission if the Manage Dictionaries permission is being granted for the user. The Database Administrator permission is needed in the following operations:

  • Upgrade schema of the selected database.
  • Manage the External Database connections. If the user does not have this permission, the External Databases node is not shown in the Database View.
With the Database Administrator permission, the user is also allowed to manage the scripts in the selected database no matter whether or not the Manager Scripts permission is granted.
System Administrator Permission to change password of any other user in the selected CUSTOMTOOLS Database. You need the System Administrator permission also to delete the selected database from the server. All the other permissions in the selected database are being granted as well, when you grant the System Administrator permission.
Manage Scripts Permission to create, update and delete add-in scripts. If you do not see the Manage Scripts node in the Database View, please make sure you have at least the Manage Scripts permission granted.
Info NOTE: The Import- and Export Settings permissions does not affect anyhow in daily usage in this CUSTOMTOOLS version.
