Icon External Databases

External data sources such as ERP or MPR systems can be linked with the CUSTOMTOOLS database. Use the External Databases options to setup connections between your CUSTOMTOOLS database server and, the external system you have.

Links defined in the External Databases are server specific connections. External Databases in CUSTOMTOOLS equals Linked Servers in Microsoft SQL Server.

Changing connection between different databases that are located in the same SQL Server keeps the external database connections as they are. However, switching between the different SQL Servers may cause differences on these connections depending on what external database connections are defined in the different SQL Servers.

NOTE: System Administrator (sa) credentials to the SQL Server are required to setup the External Databases in CUSTOMTOOLS. You may change the login credentials of your server connection using the Database Server Properties feature if needed.

The existing data sources are listed in the External data sources list.

New Opens the Add External Data Source dialog box. Create new external data source link using this feature.
Delete Deletes the selected External Data Source.
Modify login Opens the Modify Login dialog box. You can change your login information that are used to login to the external database.
Properties Opens the External Data Source Properties dialog box which shows properties of the selected data source.
