SOLIDWORKS Add-in User Interface

This topic describes the user interface of CUSTOMTOOLS SOLIDWORKS add-in.

CUSTOMTOOLS uses the single-window integration model in the most of its commands. The single-window integration means that the commands utilizes the different kind of side panes instead of using popup windows.


Command related side panes:

CUSTOMTOOLS Search The CUSTOMTOOLS Search feature is used to search documents by using free search string or specific document properties.
CUSTOMTOOLS taskpane The CUSTOMTOOLS taskpane used to show the product information and news for the user.
Properties pane The Properties pane is used to set the values for the custom properties of the selected component or an active document.
Copy pane The Copy pane and the CUSTOMTOOLS pane are used to setup the CUSTOMTOOLS Copy feature to copy, compress, rename, move or write new proeprty values to your SOLIDWORKS documents.
Data pane The Data pane is used to insert drawing annotations based on your SOLIDWORKS document's reference data.

TIP: You can use the CUSTOMTOOLS Data feature also to insert a revision table to the drawing.
Comment pane The Comment pane is used to insert customized comments into the parts and assemblies.



CUSTOMTOOLS right-click menu items:

CUSTOMTOOLS adds some of its commands also to the component related SOLIDWORKS right-click menu. The menu items are shortcuts into the CUSTOMTOOLS commands:

MenuIcon Properties Manage Custom Properties. Name, rename, copy and move active or selected document; and replace with a copy or instantiate new copy of selected component.
MenuIcon Copy Copy, rename and/or move entire assemblies; or batch edit Custom Property values with Write Property Values action. No open documents required
MenuIcon Comment Quick access and modify 'CustomComment' Custom Property.
MenuIcon Notes Quickly add notes to drawing with possibility to save common ones for later re-use; or add customizable templated notes utilizing profiled Properties and model features.    
MenuIcon Data Link model/drawing properties as Notes to drawings with just few clicks; or add dynamic Revision table utilizing Revision Properties.    
MenuIcon Open Drawing CUSTOMTOOLS can locate and open all drawings for the selected model regardless of their filenames and locations -when they are indexed to CUSTOMTOOLS Database.  
MenuIcon Print/Convert Collect your entire assembly(ies) including all their drawings with a single click, and perform one or many well-defined Conversion rules, Printing profiles and/or Tasks all at once.
MenuIcon Import CUSTOMTOOLS indexes file references to its database on document save, which allows them to be found with Search and Where Used, and wildly named drawings to be located for various operations. Import can also be manually executed for SOLIDWORKS files to have them indexed without saving. Import can also Convert SolidEdge files in a batch. No open documents required
MenuIcon Explore Open Windows Explorer folder location of the active or selected document with a single click.
MenuIcon Cutting Profile Single click create 1:1 scale clean sheet for DXF/DWG cutting. Various features like silhouette cut and custom notes can be configured to be automatically added.    
MenuIcon Bend Sheet Single click create a clean sheet similar to Cutting Profile but with included Bend lines, Bend notes and other various configurable features.    
MenuIcon Coord Note Mark coordinate points to the drawing views e.g., to ease manual programming of cutting paths for different kinds of cutting devices.    
MenuIcon Where Used View and locate where the active/selected model is used.
MenuIcon Export Export whole SOLIDWORKS structures with the pre-defined property data into external system or format; like Excel Report. Heavily utilized with various ERP intergrations.  
Customize Menu Define the items to be shown in the CUSTOMTOOLS menu in SOLIDWORKS.



CUSTOMTOOLS toolbar:

The CUSTOMTOOLS toolbar contain shortcuts for accessing the CUSTOMTOOLS commands. The CUSTOMTOOLS toolbar appear into your SOLIDWORKS user interface once the CUSTOMTOOLS is set as an active add-in in the SOLIDWORKS Add-ins options.

CUSTOMTOOLS command manager:

CUSTOMTOOLS SOLIDWORKS add-in contains a command manager. The command manager has the shortcuts to CUSTOMTOOLS commands like the CUSTOMTOOLS toolbar.

The CUSTOMTOOLS command manager with the document type based commands appear when you open a document in SOLIDWORKS while you also have the CUSTOMTOOLS add-in set as an active add-in in the SOLIDWORKS Add-ins options.
