The search results are displayed in the Search Results dialog box which appears automatically once the search is executed.
If you did not get the expected search results you can execute the new search without closing the dialog box.
If your models have more than one configuration, you can automatically expand the search results in the Search Results dialog box, by selecting the Expand documents in search results to show configurations option available in the General node in the CUSTOMTOOLS User Options.

Please notice that the Print/Convert command considers only for the documents that exists locally on the current workstation. |
Selected File(s) |
Opens the selected files in the Print and Convert for the batch operation.
You can also run batch operations against the desired model configurations via the search results. Select the rows of the desired configurations from the search results in Search Results dialog box and then click Print/Convert, Selected File(s) to open the selected documents in the Print/Convert feature for batch operations. |

BOM of Selected File(s) |
Opens the selected assemblies with their BOM structures in the Print/Convert feature for batch operations.
If parts have multiple configurations, the different configurations are shown as own configuration specific rows in the document list in batch operation. |
TIP: Hold down the Ctrl key and click the desired documents to select multiple documents simultaneously. |
Export |
Use the Export command to export a structure of the selected model document.
NOTE: The Export command could not be performed while more than one document has been selected from the Search results. The Export command is disabled also when the document selected in the Search results is a SOLIDWORKS Drawing. |

Delete File |
Removes the selected documents' information from the CUSTOMTOOLS Database.
Since the user needs to have the Delete Design Data permission on the database level in order to delete reference data from the CUSTOMTOOLS database, the Delete File command is enabled only if the user has the necessary database level user rights. The data is deleted only from the database by default, but the user is able to delete the file completely also from the hard disk by selecting the Delete associated files from hard drive as well option in the Delete Files dialog box, that appears when Delete has been clicked. |

Open File in SW | Opens the selected document with SOLIDWORKS and closes the Search Results dialog box. Multi selection is supported with this command so you can open several documents at once if needed. | |

Search Results |
List of the documents found by the search criterias defined by the user.
The search results displays the custom properties which has the Enable property in search check box selected in their database options. Search conditions matching with at least one configuration of some model having its reference data in the database does count and those models are listed in the search results. The amount of displayed search results can be limited by setting the desired value for the Maximum number of rows shown in the search result list setting in the General User Options of CUSTOMTOOLS. The Search Results shows max. 500 configurations at once by deafult. |
Preview | Shows a preview picture of the document selected under Open. |
You can insert the desired component from the search results list into the open assembly using the drag-and-drop method. However, the drag-and-drop method is not enabled for the files that does not exist locally in your workstation. |
The document rows in the search results can be expanded by clicking the + in the beginning of the row. The + appears into the rows only if the document has more than on configuration.
In the General user options of CUSTOMTOOLS, you can determine to view the search results flat or nested.
Using the flat view, each found configuration is shown as one row in the search results. Flat view search results can be also limited to show only one configuration per found document.
Nested view shows the found documents in the parent-child way where the document itself is shown as parent document and its configurations are shown as child documents.
TIP: Re-arrange the columns in the search results by dragging the desired columns into another places. |
A file property called Filename is always shown in the CUSTOMTOOLS search results.
A property called Configuration is also a SOLIDWORKS file property. The Configuration property represents the SOLIDWORKS model configuration. Configuration name shown in the Configuration property is the name set to be shown in SOLIDWORKS bill of materials (BOM).
In addition to the SOLIDWORKS custom properties, your Properties are also shown in the search results.
You can choose the properties to be shown in the search results by right-clicking the header row of the Search results list to open a context menu used to select the columns shown in the list.
NOTE: SOLIDWORKS file property called Filename cannot be hidden from the Search results list. |
The Open options determines the document type to be opened.
Model |
Opens the Model document selected from the Search results. When you have a Drawing document selected in the Search results, the Model document referenced in the selected drawing is being opened.
The model configuration referenced in the selected drawing is being considered when opening the Model document while having a drawing selected from the Search results. |
Drawing | Opens the Drawing document selected from the Search results. When you have a Model document selected from the Search results, the drawing created from the selected model is being opened. However, if your model have configuration specific drawings, the drawing which refer to the model's configuration selected in the Search results, is being opened. |
NOTE: The Open Drawing command goes disabled if the Drawing is selected in the Open options. |
Large Design Preview |
Use the Large Design Preview option to quickly open very big assemblies. Capabilities useful when conducting design reviews are still being retained.
The Large Design Preview option is available only for the SOLIDWORKS Assembly (*.sldasm) documents. |
Detailing |
Use the Detailing option to open a drawing without the data of its' referenced assembly or part. This way you can add and/or modify dimensions and annotations for most of the views.
The Detailing option is available only for the SOLIDWORKS Drawing (*.slddrw) documents. The Detailing option is available for the SOLIDWORKS Drawing documents that are saved with the SOLIDWORKS 2020 or newer version. |
Lightweight |
Use the Lightweight option to only load a subset of model data into memory on the opening event. The remaining data is being loaded on by the needs. Lightweight mode could be used to improve performance of the assemblies and drawings.
The Lightweight option is available only for the SOLIDWORKS Assembly (*.sldasm) and Drawing (*.slddrw) documents. |
Resolved |
Use the Resolved option to open selected document with all model data loaded up into memory.
The Resolved option is available for the SOLIDWORKS Assembly (*.sldasm), Part (*.sldprt) and Drawing (*.slddrw) documents. |
Read-Only |
Use the Read-only option to allow anohter user to have a write access to the document while you have the document open.
NOTE: Documents cannot be modified or saved while they are open in the Read-only mode. |
Load hidden components |
Use the Load hidden components option to also load the hidden components of the selected assembly.
The Load hidden components option is available only for the SOLIDWORKS Assembly (*.sldasm) documents. |
Use speedpak |
Use the Use speedpak option to open the selected assembly using the Speedpak configurations to improve performance while opening a very big and/or complex assembly.
The Use speedpak option is available only for the SOLIDWORKS Assembly (*.sldasm) documents that are either Resolved or Lightweight. |
CUSTOMTOOLS Viewer | Opens the selected document with CUSTOMTOOLS Viewer. |
External program | Opens the document with an external program like SOLIDWORKS that supports the format of selected document. |
TIP: You can select multiple documents to be opened at once, hold down CTRL and select the documents to open. |
OK | Opens the files selected in the search results list, in SOLIDWORKS. |
Cancel | Exits the Search Results dialog box without opening any files. |
